After Pfizer‘s recent announcement of a Covid-19 vaccine being manufactured, there are a lot of people hopeful for a time when stores open up and life goes back to normal. While the news of a pending vaccine approval is certainly enticing, I have a feeling we’re not out of the woods yet. And while we’re stuck in this mask wearing purgatory between normal and normal, there are a few things we as cannabis users can do to cope.

Cannabis for Covid Anxiety

If you’re anything like me and suffer with some major anxieties, you probably already know the great benefits one can get from consuming cannabis. From March on I have felt my anxiety rise. In such a political climate, wild-fires, and in the midst of a pandemic, it’s a littler hard to pin the cause to one issue. However, I can say that there is no doubt Covid-19 has caused and increased level of anxiety for me. There’s no shame is calming down some of those nerves with a bit of cbd. There’s no doubt that you can use cannabis for covid anxiety.

With the current oil crisis, it seems more likely that electric vehicles could become a given rather than a choice sooner than we think. Hemp batteries might be the way to go. It is no secret that the hemp plant very versatile is. It can literally be used for almost everything. In the beginning, it was sought after for the benefit of clothing and ropes. Later on, it was refined to paper and also biofuel. Now, by using discarded hemp fiber, it is used to build batteries with a focus on sustainable energy. When Henry Ford made his Model T car, it was partly done by using hemp bioplastic. It was also fueled with hemp biofuel. Today, battery-powered vehicles are becoming more popular. Hemp batteries are found to be eight times better than lithium-ion. This was proven in a small-scale test and the results are very promising.

The Supercapacitor Ability of Hemp Batteries

Electric chargers are stored in an electric component known as a capacitor. The electric charge is only charged here for a short time. But a supercapacitor has a higher capacitance than a standard electrolytic capacitor. They have a larger reservoir capacity that can dispense energy quickly to where it is needed. Supercapacitors are an important component when it comes to electric vehicles. In a technical manner, when there is an acceleration from a low speed, there is often a lack of kinetic energy in all vehicles, no matter if it is gas orientated or electric. An extra burst of energy is needed to accelerate. This is where supercapacitors come in.

A supercapacitor is almost like a capacitor on steroids. Graphene (a single atomic layer of carbon sheets) is typically used to perform as a supercapacitor. It is known to conduct heat and electricity with excellent sufficiency. It has a huge surface area for the capacity to store energy charges, and it gives you more charge to store on the surface. Supercapacitors, unfortunately, can´t store as much energy as batteries. One way to boost the energy density of supercapacitors is to make better electrodes. This is where hemp comes in as scientists believe that hemp could just be what they are looking for.

Conventional lithium-ion batteries store large amounts of energy. The problem is that it expends it slowly. Supercapacitors can release their entire load rapidly to provide high quantities of energy. It works together with the battery to get the energy and get the car going. Hemp batteries work as supercapacitors because it releases energy quickly and is not known for storing a big reserve of energy that a lithium battery would do.

How are Hemp Batteries made?

When it usually comes to make electronic parts, a lot of mining has to be done. The metals needed to make them are normally very deep underground. This obviously calls for huge investments. Using hemp changes the scenario a lot. The raw material of hemp is much easier to get to and also won´t cost an arm or a leg.

All that is needed to form the thin sheets of substrates that line the inside of a supercapacitor are the waste fibers from the hemp crop. The bark of the hemp plant gets converted into carbon nanosheets. Supercapacitors made from hemp work as effectively as industry-standard graphene material. To make it even better, it is environmentally friendly. Hemp bark normally ends up in landfills. But under the innovative eye of Dr. David Mitlin of Clarkson University, New York, the inner bark of the plant was cooked up and turned into carbon nanosheets. This process is called hydrothermal synthesis. By using waste material, graphene-like material is created for the fraction of the traditional amount needed. Hemp material is excellent for making large sheets with a high surface area. It is also stronger than diamonds and more conductive than copper.

The Cost Effectiveness of Hemp Batteries

With the focus on sustainability, hemp is right where it should be. Human rights often get abused in mining for deeply hidden minerals and metals underground. It is even more concerning when it comes to the continuous strive to find rare metals under extreme conditions when there are other viable alternatives. Using plant waste is not uncommon, especially in the energy sector. Bio-waste offers a very promising way for societies to promote sustainability.

Some Drawbacks to Overcome

Everything is not always as clear as it seems. There are more to be sorted out before it completely can replace a traditional battery. Supercapacitors are extremely useful over a broad spectrum, but they aren´t really a battery in the ordinary sense. They do not provide a long-lasting storing mode as lithium batteries would do. Hemp batteries provide temporary storage of a charge that could be harnessed quickly. At this point, hemp batteries cannot completely replace lithium-ion batteries. But with a continuous investigation, refinement might be just around the corner.

Would you go to a mechanic if you have a tooth ache? Do you pick up your groceries from the local economist? Do you take legal advice from your veterinarian?

All of these questions sound absurd? That is because they are. Except – this is exactly how we make laws around the world. We have “non-experts” vote ideologically on things they do not understand that then become law and affects every single one of us – in some cases for generations.

Why would we not take advice from non-experts in every aspect of our lives – except for law and order? It makes absolutely no sense that we are allowing ourselves to be governed by people who – in the vast majority of the cases – study law or sociology.

What the absolute-fuck can a lawyer do to understand the nuances of international economics and the impact of commerce on the sustainability factors within our ever-evolving and complex climate? What good is a Political Science major when we’re being assaulted by a viral epidemic?

Oh – oops – I guess you all are seeing what happens when you leave chimps to do the work of humans.

Cannabis Policy driven by Fear not Science

It’s funny to me to hear politicians talk about “We need more science on the matter” when they are defending a position that isn’t based on science.

That’s like a flat-earther trying to ask for more “proof” that the world isn’t flat while seeing everyone else’s data as “faulty” whereas their own is “rock solid!”

However – when it comes to cannabis prohibition, this is exactly what’s happening. Cannabis prohibition is NOT based in science. In fact, the Shafer Commission – a commission appointed by Richard Nixon to “find out the evils of weed!” – who were also comprised of actual scientists, suggested that cannabis be decriminalized because of its “generally accepted safety”.

Of course – what was safe in the 1970s is no longer what is safe in 2020. For example – people don’t think that smoking tobacco is a healthy thing anymore.

Nonetheless – the Shafer Commission found no SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE to support prohibition – yet the political ideologues placed it on the Controlled Substance Act because they needed to “stop the hippies and the blacks”.

Since then – all subsequent research in cannabis was focused on finding harms and not studying anything beneficial and activists have been fighting to get it legal – never realizing that the very premise of prohibition is “unscientific”.

Can you be more Anal about getting high?

The ONLY reason why THC usually is not included in medical marijuana riders is because politicians – who are non-expert mongoloids on the subject matter – get to vote what is legal and what is not. It’s like asking a group of mechanics to advise you on how to lower your cholesterol levels.

These lawmakers follow the old-school ideology that “feeling good is bad” and that “pleasure should be avoided at all costs”. They might say stuff like “We need more research on the matter” – but what they are really saying is, “Look – I don’t know what this is, but I’ve been told it makes you dumb and that bad people smoke pot. I also know that everyone wants that and so I’m going to say words without actually making a commitment to anything…”

This is why – every time we leave it up to law makers to draft up bills [without expert input], we get these restrictive bills that do more damage than it does good.

If you are a lawmaker and you’re reading this – please always seek unbiased experts to advice you on the policies you make. If you’re just a citizen that believe that government sucks and that you could do a better job at it – please, take up local government. Run for city council, do something.

Otherwise – we’ll have old school candidates deliver old school policies based on fear as opposed to sound reason and sound science.

The main difference between cannabinoids and terpenes is how they work. Cannabinoids interact directly with the endocannabinoid system. Terpenes are a little less precise. Interestingly enough, terpenes have been studied far longer than cannabinoids, but the medicinal understanding of cannabinoids are more. Cannabinoids provide their therapeutic benefits by interacting with the CB1 and CB2 receptors. THC binds directly to the CB1 receptors where other nonintoxicating compounds turn receptors on and off through less direct interactions.

Four-time Iditarod champion Lance Mackey found himself at the center of a cannabis controversy after the Anchorage Daily News reported that Mackey is giving his dogs CBD oil, which he says improves their recovery time.

Mackey, who is currently racing in fifth place, told the newspaper the race’s head veterinarian, Stuart Nelson, asked him not to give CBD oil to his dogs, but Mackey declined because CBD oil is not among the list of banned substances in the Iditarod rule book.

Short for cannabidiol, CBD is a non-intoxicating molecule found in hemp and marijuana. Both are cannabis plants, but only marijuana has enough of the compound THC to get users high.

The market for CBD for pets has boomed, with some touting health benefits for treating seizures and pain management, but the federal government has yet to establish standards for CBD.

Mackey is a cancer survivor who acknowledged using medical marijuana during his four-year run of consecutive victories, starting in 2007. The Iditarod eventually banned marijuana use by mushers in 2010, which Mackey chalked up to other mushers being jealous of his string of championships. Mackey won his fourth championship in 2011, after the marijuana ban was instituted.

Prizes, standings, and a scratch

Meanwhile, another musher reached an Iditarod milestone and was feted with prizes made from beaver and moose and the oldest musher in the race has called it quits.

Paige Drobney, a native of Pennsylvania living in Cantwell, Alaska, took the lead Wednesday in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. She was the first musher to leave the checkpoint at Ophir.

Drobney left Ophir just six minutes ahead of the second-place musher, Michelle Phillips of Tagish, Yukon, Canada.

Fairbanks musher Jessie Royer had the lead late Tuesday, and was the first musher to reach the checkpoint in McGrath.

For that milestone, she was given items that were handmade by McGrath residents, including musher’s mitts made from beaver and black moose hide, adorned with Athabascan beadwork on smoked moose hide.

The mitts were designed and hand-stitched by Loretta Maillelle. Royer also received a musher’s hat made from a beaver caught by Gary Egrass and designed and stitched by his wife, Rosalie.

The oldest musher in the race, 79-year-old retired pathologist Jim Lanier, withdrew from the race Tuesday evening at Rainy Pass over concerns for his own well-being, Iditarod officials said in a release.

Lanier initially was denied entry into this year’s race, with officials citing concerns over his ability to care for his dog team. Iditarod officials relented and said he could race if he qualified by competing in smaller races leading up to the Iditarod, which he did.

More than 1,000 people signed a petition urging the Iditarod to allow him to compete in a race for a sixth decade, he previously told The Associated Press. He ran his first race in 1979.

Lanier didn’t race last year, but in the 2018 race, musher Scott Janssen came across Lanier late in the race and found he was stuck and starting to freeze.

Lanier has said that was exaggerated. He got caught by a big wind 40 miles from the end of the race and was blown out to the Bering Sea.

“I wasn’t anywhere near death, I just couldn’t get myself and the team going,” Lanier told the AP in August when he was initially denied entry.

Ophir is 352 miles (566 kilometers) into the nearly, 1,000-mile (1,609-kilometer) race across Alaska. Lanier’s withdrawal leaves 56 mushers in the race, with the winner expected in Nome sometime next week.

Further studies show that cannabis could have therapeutic effects in the treatment of COPD. It is helpful in managing acute airway construction that causes inflammation and it also provides a preventive measure. Normally, cannabis smokers use cannabis flowers to smoke. The compounds in the flower bind to receptors in a different way than nicotine. The receptors that respond to nicotine found throughout the lungs and respiratory system do not respond to THC.

Poll after poll shows that American are ready for full recreational cannabis legalization. A recent report by the Pew Research Center concluded that the percentage of Americans that oppose legalization is down to 32%. Those are great odds for you and I. However, this begs the question; If the majority of abled voters want recreational cannabis legalization, why don’t we have it?

Get Out The Vote!

There are obviously many different reasons for this and a lot of factors a play. One of those factors is undoubtedly voter education and turn out. I’m not sure I’ve ever heard cannabis users accused of being too organized. Luckily for us there is an organization trying to change that.

Cannabis Voters Project

Today we wanted to showcase the Cannabis Voters Project. As the name may suggests, they’ve dedicated their work to getting out the vote for cannabis. With an incredibly easy to use interface, you’re able to navigate their website and find the exact information you need in your state. Click the state on the map and start reading the bios of the political representatives coupled with their previous votes on related issues. I’ve seen projects like this before centered on different issues and it’s great to see this type of work and dedication around the cannabis industry.

Learn Your Laws

If you don’t know your state laws or your representatives, Cannabis Voters Project is a great place to start! They have a quick tagline which summarizes everything they do. “Cannabis Voter Project informs, registers and turns out voters who are interested in cannabis policy. Launched by civic engagement organization HeadCount.org in 2018, our goal is to get at least one million self-identified cannabis voters to the polls in 2020!”

Just as a general rule, if you’re looking for some fantastic educational pieces on the effects of cannabis, both negative and positive, you should really put leafly.com on your blog roll. Time and time again they put articles out there that go the xtra mile. This one is no different. A few weeks ago Leafly posted an article about the effects of cannabis in relation to anxiety. It’s unfortunate it took us this long to find it. We’ll give you the cliff notes but it would be worth your time to head over to Leafly for more information on how to use cannabis for anxiety.

Anxiety And Cannabis

Cannabis has been well known to reduce anxiety. However, there never really seems to be concrete facts about this claim. Although we at Paradise Found agree with the sentiment, it’s a bit hard to explain to our customers oh how exactly this works. Bailey Rahn at Leafly talked openly and honestly about how anxiety affects her daily life as well as how she best uses cannabis to deal with anxiety.

Cannabis is complicated, and so is anxiety. Your ideal strain, product, dose, and regimen may not look like mine, and you should expect your relationship with cannabis as an anti-anxiety medicine to shift over the years. Anxiety evolves and changes, and so might how you treat it. There are also many different types of anxiety, and cannabis may affect each differently.
