Cannabis prohibition utilized the puritanical views of the white majority in the early 1900s to convince them to vote against cannabis. These puritanical views included the skewed message of Christian values guised under the mantle of “purity”. “No alcohol shall touch these lips” extended out to other substances as well such as opium and eventually marijuana. Let’s not forget the vile racial justifications conducted in the name of “God Almighty”.
